Does Braking Use All Four Brakes?

When a modern car with four-wheel braking stops, all four brakes are used. The brake caliper or wheel cylinder on each wheel is under hydraulic pressure, which causes friction that decelerates or stops the vehicle. To keep the vehicle stable and stop it from skidding, the stopping force is spread out evenly between all four wheels. But in an emergency or when one wheel loses its grip, modern vehicles may use anti-locking braking systems (ABS) or electronic brake-force distribution (EBD) to change the level of force applied to each wheel, optimizing stopping performance and stability.
